The Waltonian guide to…

As I’m sure you know, spring break is literally days away, and I don’t know about you, but I want to make this spring break as spectacular and memorable as possible. If you too want to have an amazing time, follow these simple rules to spring break epic-ness….

Do all your homework before you leave.
There is absolutely nothing epic about doing homework over break. If it were up to me, there would be a rule that banned professors from giving out any homework over spring break. Unfortunately, no such rule exists. Fortunately, most professors let you know that you have work due in advance. So if you want to truly have an epic spring break, you have to put in the work before you leave. Do your homework! Believe me, the hard work will definitely pay off when you’re enjoying your break and everyone else is stressing over a paper because they procrastinated.
Spend as little time home as possible.
You’ve been home millions of times. You know exactly what’s there: a television, computer, fridge, absolutely nothing epic. Unless you live in a mansion (in which, your whole life must be pretty epic). You’re not going to have a great break if you stay in the house for the majority of the time. Even if you stay at a friend’s house a couple of nights, anything would be better than being home. Take day trips, visit friends and family, do anything, just get out the house as much as possible.
Talk to strangers.
I realize that this goes against one of those principal rules your parents taught you when you were a kid, but so what? You should really try it. We are all old enough to come to a safe conclusion if this person is safe to talk to. If this person is a weirdo creeper, you should probably walk away. Everyone was a stranger at one point or another. Talking to strangers gives the element of surprise. You could talk to someone who is super cool and you end up exchanging numbers and becoming friends, or you can talk to someone who says less than desirable things, but you can still find them entertaining. Regardless of who you talk to, talking to strangers can make for some pretty hilarious stories to share.
Get out of the state at least one day.
Road trips equal epic. Period.
Surround yourself with people who want to have an EPIC spring break.
This may be the most important rule of all. Life is just better when you have special people to share it with. The same concept applies to spring break. If you have adventurous, kind-of-crazy and fearless friends who want to make spring break just as epic as you do, there is no way your break will be dull. Besides, what’s the point of having a spring break if there is no one to reminisce with and talk about how amazing everything was? Having friends to enjoy your spring break with is really the key to making that short time together great.
