MAC player of the week awards

FIELD HOCKEY

Senior Kim Campbell has been on a tear as of late. The senior from Malvern, Pa. dominated opponents’ defenses while helping the Lady Eagles maintain a seven-game winning streak.  Her outstanding play earned her Freedom Conference player of the week for Oct. 12-19.

In a 2-0 victory, Campbell put Eastern on the board early, converting on a corner from sophomore Yvonne Herbster seven minutes into the game.

Campbell had a similar performance just two days later against Haverford, this time two minutes into the contest off of a feed from senior Elya Troup.

On Saturday, Campbell decided to wait awhile to score, but did so at a crucial moment. She found the back of the cage for the gamewinner in the 3-1 victory over conference opponent King’s.

Campbell is currently third on the team in goals scored and total points.

VOLLEYBALL

Sophomore Maria Horning is no stranger to performing when the Lady Eagles need her the most. Horning did just that as the Eagles faced nationally ranked teams throughout the week of Oct. 12-19.

Horning controlled the Eastern attack throughout the 3-2 week, which included four matches at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. For her efforts, Horning was honored by the Freedom Conference as the volleyball player of the week.

Against Misericordia, Horning handed out 26 assists. She showed her all-around play by picking up 12 digs.

When the stage grew even bigger at the Titan Tussle, Horning didn’t back down.  In the tournament, the All-American dished out 48 assists against Oshkosh and 61 against St. Catherine’s while picking up 22 digs on the day.

In the second day of tournament play, Horning continued putting up great numbers. In the first game against Carthage, Horning anchored the offense with 32 assists in the 3-1 loss. After the team regrouped, Horning came out with a stellar performance in the second game. She tallied 50 assists in a 3-1 victory against Luther College. Horning earned All-Tournament team honors for the weekend.
