Football:
Football traveled to Doylestown, PA to play Delaware Valley this past Saturday, Sept. 26. They won with a score of 21-7. Senior running back Jeremiah Avrilien notched 177 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Graduate quarterback Brett Nabb put up 144 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown of his own, as well as a late game passing touchdown to senior wide receiver Malachi Wyche to notch 21 points for the Eagles on offense.
Senior linebacker DonJuan Clark III led the Eastern defense by putting up six tackles, an interception and a sack. Senior defensive back Noriano Smith also added five tackles and two tackles for loss. Sophomore defensive lineman Wayne Clark added five tackles of his own, as well as a TFL.
Football is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they will host King’s College at home at noon.
Women’s soccer:
Women’s soccer traveled to Penn State Harrisburg on Sept. 23, where they picked up a 1-0 win. Junior defender/forward Jasmine Eccles was able to notch a score on a penalty kick in the 66th minute and that was enough to seal the deal. Senior goalkeeper Faith Leake recorded eight saves in 90 minutes to record another clean sheet.
Later in the week, women’s soccer hosted Gwynedd-Mercy at home, picking up a 2-0 shutout win to close out the week. Junior defender Emily Monforto and senior forward Mia Zucker both found the back of the net for the Eagles. Sophomore midfielder Molly Schellpeper notched an assist, and senior defender Tia Argento kept pressure on the defense with a team-high seven shots attempted, five of which were on goal.
Women’s soccer returns to play on Wednesday, Sept. 30 when they host Lebanon Valley College at Home at 3:30 p.m.
Men’s soccer:
Men’s soccer only played one match this week, but they made it count, picking up a 1-0 victory at home over Goucher College. The offensive effort was relentless, with senior forward Zach Sievert recording eight shots attempted, four shots on goal and the lone goal of the contest. Senior forward Ethan Pfau recorded four shots of his own, including two on goal. Junior goalkeeper Michael Arcuri recorded eight saves for another clean sheet on his record.
Eastern men’s soccer will return to play on Sept. 29 when they host Lancaster Bible College at home. The match starts at 3:30 p.m.
Field hockey:
Field hockey dropped their first contest of the year in an overtime loss at Wilkes College. Graduate midfielder Brynne Miller recorded the lone goal of the contest, but the Eagles created plenty of chances. Senior forward Karlee Howard recorded a team-high six shots on goal, as well as assisting on Miller’s goal. Junior goalie Angelina Catania recorded 11 saves in 69 minutes, but it was unfortunately not enough to keep the Eagles undefeated.
Later in the week, they got a win back in a big way on Senior Day, routing Lancaster Bible College 7-0. Junior forward CJ Summa notched a hat trick, scoring three times in the win. Senior forward Karlee Howard notched two scores in the affair, as well as an assist and two more shots on goal. Sophomores Rhyanna Ridgeway and Megan Possinger also got involved in the scoring, each notching a goal. Ridgeway also added two assists, while Possinger added one. Senior goalie Christina Unger made six saves to help hold LBC to zero.
Field hockey returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they travel to Stockton. The game starts at 7 p.m.
Women’s volleyball:
Women’s volleyball traveled to Washington D.C. for a set of matches against Mount Union (Sept. 25), as well as Arcadia and Gallaudet (Sept. 26).
On Friday, the Eagles opened play in our Nation’s capital with a 1-3 loss against Mount Union. Every set was incredibly competitive, and the largest margin the Eagles lost a set by was six. First-Year Outside Hitter Piper Xeller led the way for the Eagles with 23 kills in the match. Senior outside hitter Alexis Standford was close behind with 20. Sophomore setter Sarah Furey notched 30 assists, and first-year setter Alyssa Heffner was close behind with 23.
Defensively, senior defensive specialist Grace Cooper notched 24 digs.
The next day however, the tide would turn for the Eagles, as they picked up two 3-0 wins over Arcadia and Gallaudet.
Against Arcadia, the offense was again led by Xeller, who notched 14 kills in the contest. Both setters, Heffner and Furey, picked up 14 and 13 assists respectively. Against Gallaudet, it was more of the same for the eagles. Xeller and Standford recorded 12 and 10 kills respectively. Sarah Furey recorded 18 assists, and Alyssa Heffner put up 16 of her own.
Women’s volleyball returns to action when they host Widener at home on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The game starts at 7 p.m.
