And the Oscar goes to…

So, it’s my favorite time of year again: award season. The nominations for the 82nd  Academy Awards have been released, and here’s who I believe will leave as winners.

Best Picture – Avatar
As much as I hate to say it, the blockbuster movie of this year will more than likely go home with quite a few Oscars in hand. James Cameron, the film’s director, never does anything small. This gigantic film is a shoe-in for the top award.

Best Actor in a Leading Role – Morgan Freeman (Invictus)
In his movie Invictus, Freeman plays Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s president who inspired not only a nation, but the whole world. Freeman, as always, has managed a stunningly convincing performance.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Matt Damon (Invictus)
The co-star of Invictus, Damon never ceases to amaze, giving a compelling performance as the captain of South Africa’s rugby team.
Damon’s presence on screen is palpable and this seasoned actor deserves recognition.

Best Actress in a Leading Role – Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)
This movie, based on the true story of Baltimore Ravens rookie Michael Oher, has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Even more so has its leading lady.
Bullock is entirely the kind of actress you expect to root for in B-rated romantic comedies. It would be amazing to see her finally reach her star potential.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Penelope Cruz (Nine)
As much as it pains me to say it,  this exotic beauty will more than likely be taking someone tiny and bald home after the Oscars. As Carla, Guido’s mistress in Nine, Cruz shows off more than her voice.

Best Director – James Cameron (Avatar)
Let’s not delude ourselves into thinking that anyone other than the genius who envisioned Titanic and Avatar is going to win this Oscar. His vision for this film has wowed audiences worldwide.
