Ten years after graduating from Eastern, Mark Spangler returned last spring to coach the men’s tennis team. This fall he will be extending his responsibilities to include head coach of the women’s tennis team.
“I thought some of the things we did with the men’s program we could do with the women’s program,” Spangler said.
A former star tennis player at Eastern, Spangler brings excitement, energy and experience to a program that is in the rebuilding stages. Only three players return to the team this fall, one of whom was injured last season. Five new additions round out the roster.
Senior Allison Verdic is happy to be back and practicing with the new players, especially first-year Bekah Roland. Verdic played third singles and second doubles last season.
According to Spangler, the entire team has the potential of seeing significant playing time this season.
