March Madness

March Madness, one of the best months for sports lovers, is finally here, and the tournament has kicked off with some great matches and upsets.

The dictionary defines an upset: to defeat or over throw an opponent that is considered more formidable. I think Butler should have its school logo printed right next to this word in the dictionary. Any March Madness lover is well aware that Butler defeated Pittsburgh 71-70 in a crazy ending that left the heavily favored Panthers sulking off of the basketball court Saturday night.

This March has had some of the most gut-wrenching overtime thrillers so far this season. The Temple loss to San Diego State in double overtime was very impressive. No one predicted Florida State over Virginia Commonwealth University for their bracket in the Sweet 16.

In the Sweet 16, Duke and Ohio State lost, leaving only one remaining number one team, Kansas, who arguably has the easiest road to the National Championship. UNC posted a convincing win over Marquette as Kansas over Richmond. UCONN took out San Diego State, and Florida took out Jimmer Fredette, one of the best college basketball players this season, of BYU.

The Final Four will be played on April 2 and the National Championship on April 4.
