Field named in honor of alumnus

When President David Black walked onto the turf field, the crowd was full of current and former students, parents, relatives, faculty and staff. He greeted everyone and proceeded with the dedication of the new turf field.

Black introduced Chip Olson, who is currently the president of the Olson Research Group and is on Eastern’s Board of Trustees. Mr. Olson, a former student of Eastern, donated the funds to have the turf field built.

And as Dr. Black stood on the newly-dedicated Olson Field, he said, “This is an amazing moment.”

Olson stepped up to the microphone and thanked Mark Wagner, the director of athletic development and the men’s soccer coach, and credited him as being the biggest help on the project. He said that he was an “awesome coach, good business man, a man of faith and character.”

The brief ceremony ended as the audience was asked to look at the new scoreboard, where a banner was dropped and balloons with Eastern colors were let into the air.
