While the majority of Eastern’s student body sleeps through the 6 a.m. hour, the baseball team begins their grueling morning practice. With a spring break trip to Port St. Lucy, Florida, just around the corner, training has already begun in preparation for the upcoming season.

Sophomore Vince Long explained that the team practices six days a week at 6 a.m., which is a continuation of their 7 a.m. fall practices.

“It’s a big commitment and leaves little free time,” Long said.

Long further explained that the early practices focus on running, conditioning, lifting and fundamentals.

For transfer-sophomore Daniel German, integrating into the early practice routine didn’t come easy.

“It’s very early in the morning and tough sometimes, but I can’t wait for Florida and the upcoming season,” he said.

Like German, sophomore Lee Ruark draws his motivation to persevere through the pre-season from the team’s potential for greatness.

“We’re a pretty young team, but we’re a lot better than last year,” Ruark said.

According to Ruark, the addition of new freshman and transfer-students to the returning core group of players will help them fight through the PAC.Only time will tell if the team’s early preparations will pay off. However, if the pre-season commitment and hearts of the players are any signs of future success, Eastern can expect a great season this upcoming spring.
