Looking for some alternative rock? See “Young the Giant” in Upper Darby!

The unique fusion of soothing melodic guitars and driving rock rhythms that is Young the Giant brings their style to the city of brotherly love. The band will be headlining a show at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA on Wednesday February 26. Over the past few years, the band has played local shows in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory and the Piazza at Schmidt’s for Radio 104.5’s summer block party series.

This time around, Young the Giant will be touring to promote their new album, “Mind Over Matter” which was released on January 21. Their much anticipated sophomore album has already attracted a lot of attention due primarily to the release of its first single “It’s About Time.” Besides this fact, the band’s three plus year gap between their debut self-titled album and “Mind Over Matter” has fans, critics, and others in the industry opening their ears to take a listen to Young the Giant’s latest work. After singles like “Cough Syrup” and “My Body” took the 3 and 5 spots on the US Alternative Song Chart and took spots on the US Billboard top 100 charts, it’s no wonder there is cause for a buzz.

The new album features a lot of similar sounds that appeared on Young the Giant’s first album. Tracks including the single “It’s About Time” displays punchy rhythms and riffs, while songs like “Firelight” embody soothing, melodic guitar play. Still, songs like “Crystallized” and “Anagram” blend both of these aspects and give the band its unique sound. An avid Young the Giant listener will notice synthesizers, which were less prominent on the first album, play a bigger role on many of the tracks.

As for the venue, the Tower Theatre has been hosting concerts since 1972. It has housed the likes of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Paul Simon and Kanye West. The Tower is approximately a 20 minute drive from Eastern and is only a block away from the 69th Terminal making the concert very accessible by train. Take a mid-week break and enjoy some great music by one alternative rock’s most popular new artists.
