Football:
Eastern Football hosted Misericordia at home on Saturday, Sept.12. The Eagles recorded a crucial conference win, 27-21. The offense was carried by Senior Running Back Jeremiah Avrilien’s massive day, running for 244 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, Grad QB Brett Nabb added 113 rushing yards and a touchdown as well to propel the Eagles to a win.
Junior Linebacker Denzel Dunbar led the defense with seven credited tackles, followed by Grad Linebacker Logan McGowan with five. Senior Kicker John Nolek went 3/4 on Extra Points, with his lone miss being blocked.
Eastern Football will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19, at home against Lebanon Valley College. Kickoff is at 1 PM.
Women’s soccer:
Eastern Women’s Soccer lost a close match at Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, Sept. 9, by a score of 2-1. Despite a valiant comeback effort in the second half of the match, Eastern fell one goal short of a draw. Eastern’s lone goal was scored by Junior Defender/Forward Jasmine Eccles in the 53rd minute, assisted by Senior Forward Mia Zucker. Despite two goals falling in the first half for Rutgers-Camden, Senior Goalkeeper Faith Leake recorded eight saves in the match.
In their second match of the week, Eastern Women’s Soccer hosted Franklin and Marshall College on Saturday, Sept. 12. Eastern suffered a loss, 2-0. Senior Goalkeeper Faith Leake made 15 saves in 90 minutes of play, and there was little to speak of on the offensive end.
Eastern Women’s Soccer is back in action midweek this upcoming week, traveling to Misericordia University for their next match, which starts at 4:30 PM.
Men’s soccer:
Led by a valiant defensive effort and a goal in the 57th minute by Senior Forward Ethan Pfau, Eastern Men’s Soccer earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw in their home opener against Moravian. Junior Forward Mauro Lence assisted on Eastern’s lone goal of the contest. In goal, Junior Goalkeeper Michael Arcuri made three saves in 77 and a half minutes, and Sophomore Goalkeeper Will Schade made a save in relief of Arcuri to close out the match and keep the score square.
In their next contest in the week, Eastern Men’s Soccer took on Gwynedd-Mercy on the road, resulting in a 3-0 win led by a Hat Trick for Senior Forward Zach Sievert. Eastern had 17 shots on goal, in a high-octane offensive effort. Michael Arcuri made four saves in 90 minutes of play to record a clean sheet.
Eastern Men’s Soccer is back in action at Ursinus on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 PM.
Field hockey:
Eastern Field Hockey notched a 4-1 win at Immaculata University on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Four different Eagles scored in the victory. Senior Forward Karlee Howard assisted on three of those goals, with Junior Defender/Midfielder Julia Potter assisting on the other. Junior Forward CJ Summa, Sophomore Forward Rhyanna Ridgeway, Senior Defender Alyssa Caldini and Sophomore Forward/Midfielder Cameron Brancato were the Eagles that all notched scores in the contest. Junior Goalie Angelina Catania made eight saves in 60 minutes to keep the opposing score to only one score.
To close out the week, Eastern Field Hockey hosted Delaware Valley University to take on the Aggies on Friday, Sept. 11. Eastern notched another win to stay undefeated, 2-0.
Karlee Howard scored two goals in the effort, and Angelina Catania made three saves to keep the score at 0.
Eastern Field Hockey will be back in action for a two-game road stretch next week, starting with Drew University, on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The game starts at 7 PM.
Women’s volleyball:
Eastern Women’s Volleyball traveled to Chicago, Illinois, for the Windy City Invite this weekend, (Sept. 10-12). The invite consisted of three matches for the Eagles, competing against John Carroll University, Kalamazoo College and North Park University.
The matches for Eastern opened with a contest against John Carroll University on Sept. 11, a match that ended in a 3-1 loss for Eastern. Senior Right-Side Jessie Schrieber recorded 11 kills, and Senior Defensive Specialist Grace Cooper recorded 19 digs.
The following day (Sept. 12), the Eagles had two more contests. In the first match, against Kalamazoo College, the Eagles lost by a score of 3-2. Senior Outside Hitter Alexis Standford and First-Year Outside Hitter Olivia McGowan recorded 10 kills each. Grace Cooper delivered another 29 digs.
In the latter contest against North Park University, the Eagles lost 3-2. Sophomore Right Side Josie Arezina recorded 13 kills. Alexis Standford recorded 10 kills. Eastern’s Primary Setters, First-Year Alyssa Heffner and Sophomore Sarah Furey combined for 33 assists, with 17 and 16 respectively. Grace Cooper again led the way defensively, with 17 digs.
Eastern Women’s Volleyball resumes action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 PM at York College in their conference opener.
