Love him or hate him, Johnny Wier has taken the figure skating world by storm. A media darling,Wier backs up his celebrity persona with inspired skating and elaborate costumes.
And a 2008 World Championship bronze.
However, Wier officially quit the sport for about a month after a poor performance in the 2009 U.S. Nationals. Wier had contracted a stomach virus while skating in South Korea early in the 2008-09 season and was too weak to properly train for the 2009 competition, finishing fifth.
In 2006, Wier became a household name when he finished second in the short program with his signature swan glove, only to end up in fifth place after negatively affecting his “aura” by missing the bus.
Regardless of how he finishes in the games, there is never a dull moment with Wier.
