The Gryphon

Established by Eastern Alum Rich Mattis and his brother Colin in 1996, the Gryphon Cafe caters to any sort of experience one could want.

It is a perfect place for a coffee break, study time, an informal date, or a group hang-out. Extended hours coupled with wireless internet access make the Gryphon is a wonderful place to get off campus to study (or get away from studying!) with or without friends. While the Gryphon is crowded more often than not, more studious clientele may choose to study at the table and lounge area available in the upstairs room.

The prices are bit on the expensive side, but think “Starbucks” with a more relaxing environment. Coffee ranges anywhere from $1.55 for basic coffee to $4.60 for the souped-up version that is custom-made with syrups and cream. Smoothies are $3.77 for either mango or strawberry, but the portion is huge!

The Gryphon also offers a variety of lunch and dinner items including salads and sandwiches. The walls are lined with posters and fliers for local opportunities. Be sure to check it out on your next walk to Wayne! Located next to the Clearview Anthony Wayne movie theater, the Gryphon Cafe is only a short walk from campus.

Hours: Mon-Thurs, 7 a.m. – 9:30 p.m., Fri 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., Sat 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sun 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
