Following the poker article in issue three of the Waltonian, an interesting development emerged. NCH, where up until recently poker was played without inhibition, has become a gambling-free zone.
“I told my RAs that I wanted to know if poker games are happening in the building and if there’s gambling, I want it stopped,” RD Gershwin Sandberg said.
“I’m not necessarily sure that I’ve banned poker. I’ve banned gambling,” said Sandberg, adding that he wants “to focus on the right issue. It’s not poker as a game, it’s gambling.”
While students are still allowed to play cards, they can not use chips, candy, or money to gamble with.
SGA is planning to hold an open forum to discuss poker and its implications at a later date.
