It takes a lot for a first-year to stand out on a team with a solid returning lineup. It takes even more effort to get playing time. But that is exactly what first-year Dann DeLorenzo has managed to do since arriving at Eastern. Playing on the Eagle’s front line, Dann has been a strong contributor in the team’s first four games.
Playing in his home state of New Jersey the first weekend in September at the Cialalla Soccer Classic at Rutgers University in Camden, Dann executed an intense offensive game.
Scoring the only goal Friday night against Villa Julie College and another during the Saturday night match-up against host Rutgers-Camden, he helped the Eagles win the tournament with a 3-2 victory.
Scoring goals is not the only thing Dann has been recognized for since he has been with Eastern athletics. For his exemplary performance at the Cialella Soccer Classic, Dann earned Offensive MVP Honors for the tournament, along with Team of the Week honors by d3kicks.com.
His team is right behind him all the way. “Playing with the team is awesome because everyone is so supportive and motivating,” Dann said. “You never hear anyone say anything bad about someone else.”
After graduating from Manalapan High School in Manalapan, N.J., Dann decided to attend Eastern because of the soccer program and the school’s size.
Hoping to win the PAC and make it to the NCAA Division III Tournament this season, Dann is sure to continue adding accomplishments to his record.
“So far the team hasn’t played to its full potential, because with the amount of skill and talent there is on the team we shouldn’t be 2-2,” Dann said. “We are a team that when it finally starts playing [to its potential] we will be a top team; we will be a team that no one wants to play.”
Be sure to look for number 24 at Eastern’s upcoming home games against Chestnut Hill College on Sept. 27 and the annual Homecoming game on Oct. 13 versus Alvernia.
