First-year Martin Soaries was honored as the MAC?Player of the Week by the MASCAC office for the week of Feb. 9. Soaries was the first Eastern player to receive this award for the winter season.
The guard has contributed heavily for the Eagles this entire season. When the men’s basketball team has had comeback wins, like they have in many games, Soaries has almost always had a hand in it.
On Feb. 4, Soaries was 8-8 in foul shots and also hit two three-pointers at Alvernia. On Feb. 7, the Eagles were at Misericordia, where Soaries led a comeback in the second half by scoring 15 of his 20 points.
The following week, the Eagles defeated top-ranked DeSales on Feb. 14. Soaries racked up four assists and three steals in the game.
Finally, at King’s on Feb. 21, Soaries recorded seven assists, his highest for the season. He also added three rebounds and four three-pointers to his stats for the year.
Head Coach Matt Nadelhoffer has been pleased with Soaries contribution to the team, both in attitude and numbers.
“I think his enthusiasm is contagious and he’s a great teammate,” Nadelhoffer said.
