Letter to the editor

In reference to Deanna Mullock’s letter:

If abortion is a medical procedure and only that, then Deanna is right that empathy and support are the proper response. Her position makes all the sense in the world unless it is a child being killed. If that is the case and pro-lifers are right, then it seems that considerably more than empathy is called for.
Followers of God should respond vigorously when confronted with such dramatic injustice. As we recently heard at Faith Forum, Wilberforce and Bonhoeffer fought boldly against the evils of their day. In a culture that devalues human life (think back to the recent Windows on the World on human trafficking), Christians need to remind the world that every human being is made in the image of God. The crux of the abortion debate is when to recognize a developing life as a human being, and thus deserving of our utter support and empathy.

Respectfully,
Andy Horvath
