Environmental summit a success

Eastern University hosted the Environmental Summit over fall break. Students and key-note speakers from all over the U.S. and Canada met to discuss environmental issues. Speakers such as Chris Haw from the Simple Way and Peter Illyn from Restoring Eden spoke to an audience of about 50-60 people, 10-15 of them Eastern students. EU’s Earthkeepers Club helped set up the event, while Renewal sponsored the event. Renewal is a “Christ-centered creation care initiative that focuses on living in right relationship with God.” (www.renewingcreation.org)

The summit held multiple workshops, addressing topics such as mountaintop removal, how to involve campuses in environmental issues, and how to start an Earthkeepers clubs on campus. The National Wildlife Federation and the Sierra Club also sent representatives that talked about God’s calling to vocations dealing with environmental issues.
