Eastern students involved in car accident on Eagle Road, Saturday night

Five first-year students were involved in a serious car accident on Saturday night around midnight. The students were driving on Eagle Road, heading for the main entrance to campus, when they hit a telephone poll and rolled the car. The car landed sideways against a tree.

The five students, Evan Winter, Ryan Fineran, Steph Onarecker, Shannon Foss and Andrew Hummer, were taken to various local hospitals.

Both Winter and Onarecker were trapped inside the car. The roof needed to be removed in order to get them out.

First-year student Rachel Quinn was one of the first people to arrive at the scene. She, along with other people who had stopped at the accident, were the first to call 911. Quinn mentioned how fortunate they were that the car barely missed rolling into a ditch.

An email sent out Sunday morning by Vice President of Student Development Bettie Ann Brigham, informed the Eastern community that residence hall directors would be available to give updates on the conditions of the students involved.
