From left are astronomy professor David Bradstreet, one of the Bradstreet Observatory’s twin telescopes, observatory coordinator Steve Sanders and research assistant Jonathan Horgis. The research they have done on the binary star system V842 Herculis was recently featured on the national radio program Stardate. The system is a contact binary, which means it is two stars orbiting each other so closely that they come together into a single, huge, bowling-pin-shaped object. The study of binary stars is Bradstreet’s specialty.
