Baseball kicks off spring sports

Baseball kicked off Eastern’s first spring sport game. The Eagles who had not practiced defense on a real diamond since the fall showed some rust as they committed three key errors, losing the season opener, 5-2. The very young Eagle squad counts only three seniors to the 14 first-years on their roster of 37.

Last season, EU Baseball broke the program’s win record of 18, setting a new record of 20 wins.

Despite dropping the first two games of the season, the outlook for this team’s season is still optimistic. With so few players leaving last year, and with some of the team’s key players like Scott Renauro and Dan Garcia entering their junior season, there is a good chance we could have a new win record this year.

Renauro and Garcia both hit over 30 RBI’s each last year, while Renauro led the team with a .415 batting average and 25 extra base hits. Renauro also set a new school hitting streak last season with 22 games.
