Last season was a very successful season for the Eastern Eagles men’s golf team. They won their conference and went to the NCAA tournament. This year, the men’s golf team looks to repeat as conference champions and maybe go even further in the NCAA tournament.
The Eagles look as if they have the tools to repeat. Andrew Barbin and Ryan Torresin are in a prime position to be the top golfers in the conference. Both of those two came close last season. Also returning to the Eagles this year is Mason Waldhauser, and new to this team is Andrew Armono.
However, the team did lose Logan Mauer to graduation. Mauer was a major contributor to the team last year. The whole team will have to step up in this upcoming season to replace the void. They definitely have the facilities for the golfers to get better at their game, even in the winter. The golf room in Gough lets golfers practice when the weather conditions are not right outside. “We practice three times a week on a course but always have the golf simulator room open, which gives us a big adventage during the winter. We go there mostly to work on fundamentals,” said Barbin.
Barbin also did not seem overly concerned over losing one of their best golfers, Mauer, because other teams also had players who graduated last season. “The two teams that came in second and third last year lost a lot of their team. Our biggest competition would have to be DeSales. I’m confident going into this year,” explained Barbin.
The Eagles will have three matches this fall. Their three matches are on October 7, October 20, and October 27. These matches will be a good way for this team to get ready for the spring.
