Men’s Basketball Finishes Strong

The men’s basketball team finished their season with a victory over Desales Saturday afternoon. They won 77-75 in a nail biting finish to end the season. Four players scored double digit in Saturday’s win. Shaquan Turk led the team with 21 points. Malcolm Garrison scored 15 points. Austin Carroll had 13 points and Tarek Hamzeh scored 12 points. Three point shooting is what won the Eagles the game. Eastern shot 40 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles also defended the three ball very well. Desales only shot nine percent from beyond the ark. In fact Desales only made one three the entire game.

The game before was a special one for Anthony Parenti on Tuesday Night. It was senior night and the final home game for Parenti, who has played four really good seasons with the Eagles. This year Anthony Parenti averaged 16 minutes per game and six points per game.

Tuesday night the Eagles played a very good Misercordia team. The Eagles almost pulled off the upset. They ended up losing 74-72 in a heart breaking finish. Despite the loss the Eagles played extremely well. Shaquan Turk scored more than half of the Eagles points. He had an impressive 37 points in the game and finished with a double-double. Tarek Hamzeh scored 10 points in the game. One of the things that made this a close game was how well the Eagles shot from the free-throw line. The Eagles shot an astonishing 93 percent from the line. They only missed one free throw the whole game. Free-throw shooting is something that the Eagles have been doing consistently well this season.

After the last two games of the season the Eagles finished 10-15 and 6-8 in conference games. Unfortunately their conference record was not good enough to make the conference playoffs. Anthony Parenti is the only Eagle graduating this year. The rest of the team should be back next year and will be looking to improve and make the conference playoffs next year.
