Eastern’s bro and grow groups

Every chaplain has a different perspective they can bring to the group, just like how every student has their own unique faith journey. By bringing different people with different experiences together in these groups, everyone in the group can learn to appreciate different perspectives.

When asked about why these groups are important to them, senior student chaplain Stephanie Boys said, “We all might read the passage differently, and what it means to us has been wonderful to see and learn from.”

These groups are also a great way to learn to be vulnerable and honest in your faith. Junior student chaplain Bryonna Mimes said, “Vulnerability and honesty [are] healing, and I’m honored to have the chance to guide people toward Jesus in the vulnerability.”

Our chaplains understand that it can be difficult to balance a spiritual life with other responsibilities. Senior student chaplain Mary Kulp said, “I really try to prioritize my spiritual life with my other responsibilities because I know that if I am not healthy spiritually, I will not be able to fulfill my other responsibilities well.” This is one of the reasons that there are multiple nights for both Grow and Bro groups, in order to help students with busy schedules.

The Gal’s Grow Groups, which are intended for women, are hosted every week on Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Gough Seminar Room 109, Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in HHC 104 and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in HHC 104.

The Bro Groups, which are intended for men, are hosted Mondays at 7 p.m. in HHC 104 and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in Gallup Lobby.

Senior chaplain Christopher Johnson wants students to know that “these spaces are free from judgment or condemnation. Our purpose is simply to offer genuine love, care, and encouragement for who you are as an individual.”

All students are invited to join and participate in the Grow and Bro groups on Eastern’s campus, no matter what background or part of their faith journey they are at.
