Writer and historian Thomas Keels is coming to Radnor on Tuesday, Oct. 25 to speak on Philadelphia’s forgotten past. Keeping in step with the season, Keels will be drawing from his book, “Philadelphia Graveyards and Cemeteries,” and lecturing on the untold stories of Philadelphia’s burial grounds. According to the Radnor Historical Society, Keels will be “including stories about the resting places of notable historic Catholic, African American and Jewish figures. Laurel Hill and Christ Church are perhaps the best known burial grounds where some of our nation’s greatest citizens lie, but less than 20 of Philadelphia’s original estimated 120 cemeteries still remain, so plenty of untold stories still rest beneath our feet across the city.” It will be an exciting evening of exploration into history that is in Eastern’s own backyard.
Keels has authored six books on Philadelphia’s history and is a widely-known Philadelphian historian. The Radnor Historical Society and the Radnor Memorial Library are co-sponsoring this free event. It will take place at the Radnor Fire Company, located at 121 S. Wayne Ave. in Wayne, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Books will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served.
