While many of you were on Christmas break, the men’s basketball team has done well. The last 11 games have been good ones for the Eastern Eagles. Our boys have outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points, and their 8-3 record is proof of their ability to keep pace with the difficult schedule. Their conference record is 7-2 and their overall record is 14-6.
Scoreboard leader Alex Nelson achieved a season high of 24 points in a loss against King’s College.
Coach Nathan Stewart’s concept of team play shows through in how the players interact. “We have really good players that work hard each and every day,” he said. “They are the reason we have been able to have success. We are working each and every day to improve in all facets of the game. The main key to winning league games is defending and rebounding. These are two things we have been doing well.”
This style of coaching is best expressed by Mike Donatoni: “As a player, you can’t worry about scoring. If you work hard to prepare the right way and have trust in your teammates, the stats will come.”
Both Alex Nelson and Martin Soaries joined the 1,000 point club in back-to-back home games. As long as the team continues to improve, our Eagles have a good chance of playing at home throughout the playoffs.
