Senior attackman Nick Mandia has proven his prowess on the field over and over again, and that skill has allowed him to snag a MAC Player of the Week award for the week of March 16.
This season seems to be his strongest yet. The co-captain has started all six games of the season so far and is the top scorer on the team with 14 goals and 16 assists.
“He is one of the hardest workers on the team,” Head Coach Brandon Childs said. “He’s our go-to guy. We rely on him quite a bit.”
The game against Messiah on March 14 was a nail biter of a match, ending with a score of 9-8 in Eastern’s favor.
Messiah was picked to finish first in the conference before the season began, and the Eagles victory over the Falcons, who entered the match with a string of 26 consecutive conference wins, did much to bolster Eastern’s confidence.
Mandia had two goals and three assists against Messiah, but he knows that such a win should not go to his head.
“The win against Messiah was a great step for our program, but it wasn’t our ultimate goal,” Mandia said. “We still have ten other conference teams that we must beat.”
