Sophomore Megan McCalip and senior Chelsea Lyon are this year’s team captains for the women’s volleyball team.

For two weeks before classes start, they led their team in eating, sleeping and breathing volleyball, kicking off their training with a white-water rafting trip in the Poconos.

Both girls are dedicated players. Both have sustained pulled muscles in the pre-season and undergo treatment every day before practice.

Lyon could have graduated in May, but is taking an extra year of classes to play out her last year of eligibility.

McCalip and Lyon are excited about the upcoming season, which includes tournaments in California and New York.

Eastern volleyball is looking to win their tenth consecutive conference title this year.

“Our big thing this year is the number one team in the nation is coming to play us for a regular game on a Friday night,” Lyon said, referring to Eastern’s game versus Juniata College on September 29.

The season begins with a tournament at Moravian College on August 2.
