The Eastern community was hit with another devastating loss on April 9 when former student and men’s lacrosse player Dave Mojica was killed in a car accident. Mojica’s passing is the fourth Eastern-related death this year.Mojica, known to his friends as “Mojo,” transferred to Eastern for the 2008 spring semester and immediately made an impact on the lacrosse team as a midfielder. He began the fall semester at Eastern, taking classes and playing lacrosse before dropping out before the end of the semester to join the military.Mojica’s death affected several schools that he had previously attended, including King’s, Widener, and Delaware Community College. In Eastern’s home match against King’s on April 15, a moment of silence was held in remembrance of Mojica. Senior Pat Dempsey knew Mojica in high school before playing lacrosse with him and said he had just talked to Mojica the night before the accident. “He was a great kid and is definitely going to be missed,” Dempsey said. “It just doesn’t feel the same.”Dempsey said that the most memorable thing about Mojica was his personality and laugh. “He brought so many groups of people together,” he said. “He was just always trying to have a good time, no matter what it was.”
