On January, 12, 2012, Alex Nelson joined the 1,000 point club following Martin Soaries, who achieved that goal just ten days earlier in a win over FDU-Florham. Since then, the Eastern University men’s basketball team has kept its spot at the top of the Freedom Conference with a 15-6 overall record, posting a 7-2 conference record.

Nelson, who is currently leading the Freedom Conference in scoring with an average of 18.2 points per game, passed the 1,000-point milestone in only three years of collegiate basketball.

After beginning his college career at Liberty University and then transferring to a community college back home, Nelson decided it was time to attend Eastern. “I really missed playing basketball. I got in contact with them during high school, so I knew of Eastern and it was a good fit for me since I only live an hour away,” Nelson said.

With only four games left in the regular season, it is important the Eagles take this hot streak into the playoffs.

“I’m looking forward to keeping our level of play up,” Nelson said. “Hopefully we’ll have home court advantage throughout the playoffs—it’d be pretty awesome.”
