I read with interest your account of the discovery of the Beethoven score at Palmer Theological Seminary. Information attributed to me was slightly but significantly misreported. I did not say that this and other valuable musical scores were donated to the sacred music department. They were donated to the Seminary but were in the possession of, and displayed in the music department which inhabited the entire basement level of the Laws chapel. It may be logical (and intriguing) to assume that Ms. Doane intended for them to be owned by the music department. It was, after all, named the “William H. Doane Department of Sacred Music” after her father who collected the scores. But, alas, there is no documentation of such an intent.
