The Philadelphia Eagles are 10- 1! This NFL season has been full of both surprise teams and devastating injuries that have left the NFC wide open. No one saw the Eagles being as dominant as they have been, winning nine consecutive games (although some did predict them to win the division). The Eagles stand as clear NFC favorites and have a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl for the first time since 2004, and Carson Wentz is leading the MVP race. It is a good time to be an Eagles fan, so let’s enjoy this while it lasts, and hope the Eagles have changed their disappointing ways.
The Eagles face some stiff competition in the NFC, as the Vikings, Rams, and Saints have all performed far beyond what was expected of them this season. Aaron Rodgers’ broken collarbone opened the door for Case Keenum and the Vikings. Minnesota boasts a suffocating defense and a balanced offence with the surprise player of the year Adam Thielan as receiver. The Rams have had an explosive off ence all year behind second-year quarter back Jarred Goff who has seen massive improvement in his sophomore campaign. The Saints look similar to their 2009 super bowl team that saw a balanced run game supported by the Hall of Fame arm of Drew Brees.
In the AFC, two teams have stood out as favorites to make the Super Bowl. The Steelers and Patriots have leapt ahead of the rest of conference, as the Chiefs have seen a major drop-off in performance over the past few weeks. The Chargers have stormed back from a 0-4 start to now be in contention for the AFC West. However, it still seems as if the AFC is destined for a rematch of Big Ben and Brady, who has continued his insane career with yet another MVP caliber season.
There have also been some unforeseen defeats this year, as the Cowboy’s offense has sputtered ever since the Ezekiel Elliot suspension, and the New York Giants have been a hot mess since their fi rst game of the season. The Seattle Seahawks defense has been decimated with injuries, and has put them behind in a division that many expected them to win. The Oakland Raiders have failed their fan base and the expectations of the average NFL fan, as Beast Mode has been used woefully, and the defense has as many interceptions as the Browns have wins.
As the season moves into the playoff s, the Eagles chances have never looked better. There is a good chance the NFL could see an all Pennsylvania super bowl. So here’s to the Eagles chances, let’s hope to see Carson Wentz parading down Broad Street in 3 months time!
