What you may be missing at Warner Memorial Library

For college students, their campus library is often their safe haven during times of stress and work overload. Whether it be studying for finals, working on heavy projects or finding research and resources for an exhausting paper, a campus library is the tool that keeps students academically afloat during their tiring college years.

Eastern’s library, the Warner Memorial Library, has been that safe haven for students for generations. In addition to establishing a secure place for students to work, Warner Memorial has also provided Eastern students with countless resources for both academic and social success.

Like other libraries, Warner Memorial has copious amounts of books of both academic and entertainment value available for borrowing. They also boast an electronic streaming video collection of over 80,000 titles across their platforms, as well as a broad collection of DVDs and audiobooks accessible for check-out on-site. These allow students to access virtually any information they may seek and still have content left over for amusement. Warner Memorial also provides students with free subscriptions to The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal online. Instructions on how to create an account can be found on the Warner Memorial Library website (https://library.eastern.edu/).

At several points in every student’s college career, they will be required to complete a research paper. While researching and finding trustworthy sources seems like impending doom upon assignment, Warner Memorial swoops in to save the day with their wide variety of databases and research guides. Endless amounts of safe, peer-reviewed articles and journals can also be accessed through the search bar on the library website’s home page. These make research projects and papers far less stressful. Plus, you can save them to your profile right there on the website, so everything stays in one place! The library also gives students access to Ref Works, a project management tool designed for research projects which can be accessed under the “For Students” tab on the library website.

One interesting and beneficial service that is often overlooked by students is Warner Memorial’s assistance in setting up an interlibrary loan. When searching for a book, one may assume that if it isn’t on the shelf in front of them, the library will not be able to help them. However, Eastern’s library aids students in requesting to borrow that missing book from other local libraries through their Interlibrary Loan Service. This service allows students to search online for a book they need and find where it is available to be checked out. It is accessible through the library’s website under “For Students,” or you can ask your favorite librarian for some help.

For on-campus students, the library has several 24-hour study rooms which are reservable upon request through the library’s website. Students may rent one session per day for a duration of two hours, providing the student requests the time at least one week in advance. Their YouTube channel (@WarnerLib) has extensive tutorials on how to access and make use of each of these resources. With questions, students can call the library’s front desk at (610) 341-1777 or email warner-library@eastern.edu. Never be embarrassed to reach out and ask a question; everyone is learning here!
