Faith and Self-Confidence

Imagine waking up in the morning, looking in the mirror and absolutely loving what you see. For girls that could mean, no zits, no “problem areas”, perfect weight, perfect height, neat hair, the whole package. For guys this could mean you wake up with a six pack, a non-blotchy beard, and have the face of Brad Pitt. I think we can all agree that this would make us pretty ecstatic. Well, this is how God sees us. He looks at us and does not think, “Wow she could lose a few pounds,” or, “Man, he needs to do more crunches.” All He sees are His beautiful children.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works, my soul knows it very well.” Most of us have read this verse and think we believe it, but do we actually? I know it may sound cliché, but what truly matters is what is on the inside of a person. If we let our outward appearance bring us down, how can we allow the beautiful people that we were meant to be shine a light into the world? We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Someone once told me that when you look in the mirror, your eyes are always drawn to the part of you that you do not like. Let’s change that. Let’s try to see ourselves the way that God does; perfectly sinless in Christ. This is the ultimate boost of self-confidence. The God of the universe thinks you are one good-looking kid, so go and be who He made you to be.
