Coach Kevin Brenner has joined the Eastern University athletic program as the new head coach of the men’s soccer team. Brenner was born and raised in Plattsburgh, NY, where he attended Plattsburgh High School. Brenner played multiple sports in high school, including hockey, soccer, and golf. Brenner was given All-State honors in high school for soccer.
From there, Brenner was recruited to play Division III soccer at SUNY Cortland. Brenner played at Cortland for 1 year before transferring to SUNY
Buff State to play for the next 3 years. He played center back and was the captain of the team his junior and senior year. After his senior year, Brenner was awarded first team All-Conference and Region honors. Brenner graduated from Buff State with a degree in business management, and later
earned a masters in applied economics.
In 2005, Kevin Brenner began his coaching career at Buff State, and remained there for 6 years. Brenner then moved on to Canisius College, with a DI
athletic program. After 7 years at Canisius, Brenner was the head coach at Lake Erie College for 2 years. This DII program under Brenner’s coaching became one of the best defensive teams in the country. For the few years before Brenner arrived at Eastern, he was the head coach at Elmira University, a DIII program. Brenner also holds the position as the chair of the NCAA DIII Men’s Soccer Committee.
Brenner is very excited to inherit the soccer program here at Eastern University. He wants to build on the success this program has had in past years. Brenner, along with maintaining past success, wants to ensure a stronger culture within the soccer program. One way he will do this is by recruiting,
developing, and retaining quality individuals with strong moral character. As Brenner develops this team, he hopes to take this program further in terms of national recognition, by being a consistent contender in the NCAA tournament.
While having a successful program is important to Brenner, he is especially concerned with the character development of his players. He said, “I want
to broaden and enhance players as athletes, but more importantly as people”. In Brenner’s short time with the program, he has enjoyed campus life very much and wishes to continue the growth that he has seen within the men’s soccer program.
